describing photographs

Farm split by scissors:
The picture appears to be taken on either a farm or an area with lots of land. It’s an image of a house and a pair of scissors cutting everything in half. A pair of scissors is cutting a house and all the surrounding land in half. Everything looks very gloomy. In the background it looks as if it is raining. In the midground you can see a lady standing in the top of the house. This makes me wonder if the reason that the land is being cut in half is because the couple is splitting up. Halfway between the background and the midground you can see a giant pair of scissors splitting the earth in two. Your attention is first drawn and focused on the scissors in the background. It looks like a family is getting a divorce. That would explain everything cut in half. The photographer mainly uses darker colors and dark shades.

The man in the boot:
The picture makes me think that the man in the boots is leaving his mark on the world. The mark being the footprint left by his boots. In the picture you can see the sun setting in the background as well as a pair of boots with a man holding the laces. One boot is lifted making it seem as though they are walking. The viewers attention is on the man inside the boots. He appears to be looking off into the distance, focused on something (perhaps the future).

Man punching his face:
The picture is a man punching his own face. I think the photographer is expressing how a person effects their own body. The background looks like the picture was taken in a studio because it is one of those standard backgrounds. The mans face is caved in and dis formed underneath his fist. This image makes me feel dismal. It appears to me like the man could be upset and bitter with himself.

Lady and the clothes line:
The image is a lady on a ladder hanging clothes on a telephone wire. The colors used in this picture are bright colors making it seem light and happy. Your eyes are drawn the the midground where you can see the lady and her clothes. In the background you can see what looks like a barn. To the left of the midground it looks like there are goats or sheep which makes me think that her location is at a barn.

Kayaking through glass:
This picture is of a man kayaking. However, the water in the foreground has turned into glass leaving him stuck. Around the glass shards you can see some dead fish. To me it seems as though the meaning of this picture could be that people are ruining our waters. The fish are dying and the water is changing. The water that used to be useful is now harmful. Down the middle of the background, it looks as if there is a tear going through the sky. I'm not sure if this was intentional but if it was it could mean that everything is being effected not just one thing. Reality appears to be changing, impacting us.

Nightly walks from door to door:
This photo is a man in his robe walking from one door to another. The background is dark and has stars in the sky making me believe it is sometime in the night. The man is holding a glass of what could be milk. I'm thinking he's bringing it to his child who is having trouble sleeping because the door he's walking into has what looks like stickers on it. It also looks banged up. The lamp outside the door could be sort of like a "nightlight". The photo makes me feel confused because I don't really know what's going on.

The ice fisher:
This image is a man pulling a sled of ice. He is carrying a chainsaw in his hand. My eye is drawn to the chainsaw right away because it's a bit of a contrast to the blues and grays surrounding it. Another thing I noticed is that the blocks of ice have fish frozen in them. You can see starting from the left midground a trail of where he has cut the ice blocks and taken them out. The mans facial expression seems as though he's not very worried about anything. The sun is either rising or setting in the background. I believe it is rising. Cutting out the ice blocks is probably his job and since there's only three holes, I think he just started that morning.
