something from nothing

cubism

Reflection:
1. I was at Ringling after the project was introduced and I just thought that it would be cool to do a cubism project at a museum.
2. I took about 20ish photos for this. I wasn't exactly sure how many I was going to need.
3. I had absolutely no idea how to do this project. I honestly just winged it and hoped that it would work out for me.
4. Doing this project a second time I would take a lot more pictures using different angles.

ligthhouse challenge

I took the original photo of the lighthouse and I gave it a watercolor painting look.

the importance of art

"Tax dollars should not be wasted on art, music, or theater classes in high school." This statement is complete bull. If you take away these classes from us, you are depriving us of the chance to further the creative side of our mind. It would take away and suppress the freedom we have to express ourselves.

As students we already are worked to the brim with studies. These electives give us a chance to not only express ourselves but give us a break. Without these classes we would only be using and developing one side of our brains.

This whole thing is kind of comedic though. People want to take away our arts programs but nothing is mentioned about the sports. If you're going to eliminate some electives, just get rid of them all. "Public high schools should be about training young people to enter the workforce. Period." This is meaning the academic courses. Evidently no one is expecting anyone to go do a creative job. These classes are getting us ready for the workforce. Not everyone is going to end up in a job that needs science or a lot of this unnecessary math we learn.

Please don't take away our creative freedoms because you were boring and uncreative while in school.

photoshop tutorial quest

Both tutorials that I used were easy to follow. They turned out how I wanted them to. The tutorials I used were a brick wall portrait and a gradient silhouette. The first one with the brick was a little harder to follow but once I found any mistakes I made it went quickly. Both tutorials could be applied to any photograph.

first semester reflection

My quality of work during the first semester varied. Some of my projects I took a lot of time on and did well but others weren't always the best. Sometimes I would stray from the objective of the assignment on accident. Most of the time I had the correct number of images for my index print but there were a few times when I believe I was a few short. The format and resolution of my pictures was always correct. I have a bad habit of procrastinating which caused me to have a few late assignments. Some of this procrastination draws from me struggling to make a decision. I come up with multiple ideas that could work for the assignment but don't know which I want to pursue.

I take a lot of photos when I go shoot. I usually go way over the minimum amount of photos that we're supposed to hit. When shooting photos I do look for the closest place to me. It is easier for me to get it done. However, if I know there is a cool subject/location that I need to drive to I won't hesitate to do so. If a shot is hard for me to take I don't just give up. I will try other methods to getting the wanted shot. Taking risks is slightly out of my comfort zone but that is something that I want to change. I want to take my pictures further to the next level. I do have a positive attitude when looking at other students work. Everyone takes assignments a different way and it's cool to see how you are able to do opposite things with the same prompt.

I am always on time to class. I do have trouble staying on task and actually working during the period. A handful of this goes to the procrastination part of me. It is also just hard for me to focus in all the time. I do however work independently. Sometimes Angelina and I will get together and shoot for projects but this just helps to bounce ideas off of each other.

I would say that I have improved so far through the semester. Right now I am looking for my own style. I don't really have a style yet. I have improved a lot with photoshop and editing photos. The way I take pictures has also improved. I go from many different angles instead of the most basic ones. My concepts are getting stronger and I am feeling more confident in my photography.

For semester 2 I am going to try to not do the whole procrastination thing. Even though i am really busy outside of school I want to try and do my photos as soon as possible. This will give me time to reshoot if needed and not to rush turning things in.

For a future project I would like to do something with buildings. I don't really have anything in specific but I think it would be neat.
